Learn the tapestry crochet technique by making a simple, small bowl in this workshop.
This technique uses more than one colour of yarn in single crochet stitches done firmly around a core. It has also been called “jacquard" or “mosaic" crochet and can be used to create sculptural pieces or flat fabric that could resemble a woven tapestry.
Participants need to know how to chain and work single crochet stitches and increase crochet stitches.
This little hedgehog will share his heart with you all year round!
In a short afternoon, you will learn how to make adorable creatures out of roving. This introduction into the wonderful world of needle felting will give you the knowledge and basic supplies to venture into this new hobby.
If you've taken our free learn-to-knit class (or have learned elsewhere) and are ready for the next step, join thisbeginner-levelclass to learn the purl stitch as well as some knitting theory and methods for correcting mistakes, an essential skill for all knitters!
You will learn:
How to purl
How to distinguish knit stitches from purl stitches
THIS CLASS HAS FILLED. SEE BELOW FOR ANOTHER ANDREA MOWRY PATTERN WORKSHOP.
Andrea Mowry's "Shift" designs took the knitting world by storm last year, just as her "Fade" designs did a couple of years ago. If you want to jump on the mosaic-knitting bandwagon, this is a great project to start with. Participants must be comfortable with knit and purl stitches.
Knitted using three colour-changing yarns, this project is fun and engaging. In this two-session advanced-beginner-level workshop you will learn:
the mosaic knitting technique
four types of increases
some pattern-reading skills
the mattress stitch
As always, yarn purchased for this class will be discounted 15%.
This tutorial offers just a brief introduction to the world of Ravelry. You will learn how to search for projects to knit or crochet, ways to determine if the patterns you like are worth the time investment to make, how to create projects and upload your own photos, and more!
Look what just hatched! Enjoy a two-day needle-felting lesson for beginners. You will not only learn the basics of creature making, but you will also be introduced to the basics of wet felting. We will make the egg on the first day (wet felting with a resist) and then wait for it to dry and come back another day to make its newly hatched inhabitant (this cheeky little chicken). Perfect for those Easter treats and gifts with that personalized touch! For this workshop, roving and needles are included in the class fee. You will just need to purchase (or bring) a needle-felting mat. Note that class lengths are estimated (one class may run a little shorter).
In this four-hour workshop over two days, you will make a baby sock from the cuff all the way to the toe, learning skills transferable to adult socks. Participants in the course should be comfortable knitting in the round on double-pointed needles, casting on, knitting, and purling. You will learn:
the basics of sock construction
how to turn a heel
how to knit in your ends
how to change colours (if you choose the baby work sock)
how to graft
The pattern is included in the price of this class.
Saturdays, April 11 & 25, 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Overcome second-sock syndrome by learning to knit two socks at a time on one long circular needle using the magic loop knitting method! In the second session, you will learn how to turn a heel using the slip-stitch heel turn and heel flap. This class is appropriate for advanced beginners to intermediate knitters.
