Forager Wrap with Embroidered Flowers / Oct. 3 & Nov. 14

Saturdays, October 3 & November 14, 1:30 to 3:30 p.m.

The lovely Forager by Wool & Pine features an advanced-beginner-friendly one-stitch cable motif with flowers embroidered on after blocking. In two sessions 6 weeks apart, we will finish this lovely wrap. (Make it for you or as a perfect gift for someone knit/embroidery-worthy!)

Session 1: Techniques in Knitting – October 3

• i-cord cast-on
• 1-stitch cables
• Slip stitch
• i-cord edges
• Reading a chart
• Optional: If you want to learn how to put in a lifeline, bring any swatch that has live stitches on any sized needle, plus a darning needle and waste yarn, and we will practice installing a lifeline
  

What you need:

• 800-900 yards fingering weight yarn
• 3.75 mm needles (at least 32”)
• Stitch markers #1-#9 for an easy start to identify the pattern repeats across the row or a selection of colourful stitch markers, plus some locking stitch markers to easily identify the chart repeats (help! what row am I on?) 
• Thread or lace weight yarn if you want to try out using a lifeline

Session 2: Techniques in Embroidery – November 14

• Chain stitch
• Bullion stitch
• French knot stitch

The pattern calls for chain, bullion and French knot stitches, but if you want to do other stitches suited to embroidery on knitting without using a stabilizer, such as creating a daisy or trillium, I will teach those too.

What you need:

• 1-5 yards of remnants of colourful contrasting lace or fingering weight yarns for each embroidery flower (total 39 flowers)
• Size-18 tapestry needle (what you would normally use to weave in your ends – not plastic or bamboo as the yarn would be too “sticky”)
