Roositud is an Estonian colourwork knitting technique that creates an embroidery effect. Only the main colour is knitted, while the contrast colour creates geometric designs on the surface of the fabric. This technique produces isolated motifs and eliminates the need for complex colour changes or finishing, making it ideal for smaller design elements on items like socks, mittens, and hats.

Participants must be comfortable doing ribbing and stockinette and be able to read their knitting.

You will need a small amount of chunky yarn for your contrast colour, about 50 g of worsted weight yarn for your main colour, and 4.5 or 5 mm needles (of any length).
