Shetland Wool Week 2026 - post 2

On the eve of leaving for Shetland Wool Week, I am thinking a lot about my mom. She passed away in February, and the money for this knitting retreat came from what she left me. I am considering this once-in-a-lifetime trip to Shetland Wool Week her final gift to me.

I love that this adventure will always be tied to her memory. Mom herself was not adventurous. She was very much a homebody. She hated flying and certainly wouldn't have taken a trip this far from home. But she loved to hear about my trips and always looked forward to my sending her pictures. I will miss having her back home to email photos to. Instead, I will share my photos and stories with you.

Thanks for standing in for her. <3

  • Thanks so much, Janice and Jocelyn, for those comforting thoughts and words.

So sorry for your recent loss, Jocelyn. It is amazing how fresh it can feel still many months later. But good memories and thoughts of her when I see certain things has made this trip extra-special. I do wish I could send her photos. Perhaps she’s getting a more thorough view of my experience, though. We can always hope that is the case. ☺️

  • I’m sure your Mom is cheering you on during this trip of your dreams and passions. I just lost my mom in August and I’ll miss the little things like sending her pictures.

Enjoy every moment and this gift from your Mom ❤️‍🩹
